An implant over denture is a denture that is held in place by dental implants.
Some dentures are fixed permanently by screws to the implant (Fixed).
Over dentures are held in place by clips or fasteners and can be removed by the patient for cleaning (removable).
How to Choose?
Choosing an implant retained or supported denture can be very difficult. There are many factors in the process and some of them are out of your control, so you will have to rely on advice from your dental professionals.
Where to start?
If you have a regular Dentist, this is the best place to start, you need to ask them for an implant consultation, this will usually involve a discussion around the following:
What exactly do you want to achieve?
Are you suitable for implant therapy?
What alternative treatment plans may be more suitable for you?
What are the costs for the type of treatment you are interested in?

Your Dentist will do the following:
Request an OPG x-ray, to look at the big picture of your dental health
Make an appointment to discuss the overall situation and to look at all treatment options available to you
Potentially decide if you are a candidate for implants
Refer you to an implant surgeon
Once you have seen the surgeon, discuss his recommendations
Make a plan for your implant treatment.

Your dental Prosthetist will work with your Dentist and Oral Surgeon, to provide a coordinated team effort, to ensure you have your implants inserted and your overdenture prosthesis delivered and maintained for your best possible dental health.
Ongoing Care Plan
The maintenance of implant prosthesis is essential to the longevity of the implants and the overdenture, like natural teeth implants are vulnerable to dental infections (peri-implantitis).
Bad breath and foul taste can also be a result of poorly maintained implant prosthesis, therefore we recommend regular 6 monthly check-ups with your Dentist and dental Prosthetist.
